Signal processing is the audio side of production where sound is shaped through deliberate technical change.

Signal processing covers the tools used to alter audio in useful or creative ways. This includes equalization, compression, transient shaping, clipping, saturation, filtering, reverb, delay, modulation effects, and stereo processing. Each processor changes how a signal behaves, not just how it sounds at first impression.

Within music production, signal processing supports clarity, tone control, movement, loudness management, and spatial placement. It can solve technical issues, but it can also define a production aesthetic when used aggressively or in combination.
